Montevideo, Uruguay

Uruguay gained it's independence in 1828 from the Spanish rule. In the late 1800's and early 1900's European immigrants, mostly Italian and Spanish, among others, came to Uruguay to live. Today it has a population of over 300,000, and you can see much of the European charm in the large boulevards, parks, fountains and plazas.

We have been to Montevideo before. Today we decided to take a taxi cab at the port for a city tour. Not all taxi drivers speak English, and by the time we got off the ship, only one taxi was left and he didn't speak English, so we listened to the tour in Spanish, which I can mostly understand, but not always, especially with the different pronunciations between so many countries that use the Spanish language.
